We had a nice break from the rain yesterday, just in time for the California International Marathon. Over 6,000 runners gathered at the race's start in Folsom and luckily it was a cool, sunny day - perfect running weather. We went to a couple of check points to cheer on a friend of mine who was running this marathon for the first time.
My friend has been going through a difficult time lately and he could have easily thrown in the towel and not run the marathon because he had so much going on and no one would have faulted him for it. But he didn't throw the towel in - he became even more determined to run and finish the marathon. It has been a gift to watch him training these last six months, but it has been truly an inspiration to see him overcome recent challenges and achieve his personal goal.
Congratulations to everyone who ran yesterday - you are all an inspiration.

A true inspiration.. so often when we face adversity, it's very easy to just want to move to a corner and hide.. it's wonderful to see that your friend took the personal challenges as a mechanism to motivate and complete the marathon. Congratulations!
