I was really looking forward to making this week's BAKED recipe mostly because I have never made doughnuts before, but also because this has been a week where I have craved comfort food and eating a freshly made doughnut is definitely comforting.
The dough was pretty easy to put together and I was happy that there was no mixer required. It was also very easy to cut the doughnuts since there was no rolling involved - just pat the dough and cut with the doughnut cutter. My mom was really happy when I talked to her on the phone later in the day and told her I made doughnuts finally and used the doughnut cutter that she gave me a long time ago. And it made me happy and brought back memories of watching her making them when I was a child. She never wanted me to do the frying because of the hot oil. And now I understand why because you really have to work quickly because the oil cools down very fast as you are frying each batch of doughnuts. I was glad to have my husband's help with this part.I made the chocolate glaze and cinnamon sugar toppings and had fun dipping and rolling them.
They are wonderfully moist and the doughnut itself is not very sweet, but the chocolate glaze and the cinnamon sugar add just the right amount of sugar. We had so much fun sampling them as we were making them.

Elaine, they look absolutely wonderful!!! You did an excellent job! The recipe does look pretty easy. Once I'm allowed to have some 'sweet treats' again, I'll have to try making my own!
