The loaf gets is luscious dark looks from a cup of dark unsweetened cocoa and 8 ounces of dark chocolate chunks.
When I made the spread, I used about 2 ounces of the cream cheese mixed with about 4 tablespoons of creamy peanut butter and skipped the sugar. My husband really enjoyed this loaf and preferred to eat it without the spread. I, on the other hand, thought it was a little too bittersweet, and preferred it with the peanut butter cream cheese spread.
No matter which way you prefer to eat it, this is a perfect snack with a cup of tea. Head on over to BAKED Sunday Mornings and follow the links to see what other members thought of this loaf. You can also find the recipe over there.

I made this right after I got the book and I agree with you.. a bit too bittersweet without the spread. The loaf is nice though.. holds together well and delicious any time of day! I LOVE the pink retro dishes, Elaine! Such a great design!!

Your loaf is beautiful. I so appreciate this blog! I would not have taken the time to bake this week except that I felt I had an assignment and got it done...and I have found a recipe to add to my favorites. Your photos are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYour post makes me wish I had made the peanut butter spread to go with the loaf! I liked mine with the peanut butter chips in it but the spread sounds so delicious too!

ReplyDeleteNext time I make the spread I will omit the sugar as well - great call on adding extra peanut butter. I agree - the loaf needed the spread to cut the chocolate a little ... thanks for sharing!
