A Giveaway in Honor of International Women's Day

As I sit down at my laptop to begin writing this post, I can hear the frogs out back heralding the arrival of spring and it makes me think of one of my favorite gardeners, Margaret Roach, from A Way to Garden.

Margaret has just published a new book, a memoir entitled "and I shall have some peace there: trading in the fast lane for my own dirt road." It is a compelling and very personal account of her transition from corporate life to life in her little house in the woods. It is her personal story, but it transcends the personal to the universal.

I have never read such a literary, eloquent, and inspiring memoir as Margaret's. Whether you are contemplating a life or career change, or are standing at the threshold of a change in your life and uncertain, or feeling incapable, of crossing that threshold, you want to read her story. But, really, no one can tell you about it better than Margaret herself:

In honor of the centennial celebration of International Women's Day I am having my first giveaway on my blog and I am delighted to give away one copy of Margaret Roach's book.

If you would like your name thrown in the hat to receive the book, please leave a comment for me by Friday, March 11, midnight pacific time. This giveaway is also open to International readers.

Happy Centennial International Women's Day!

Update:  03/12/11 - Thank you, everyone, for entering my first blog giveaway! My husband did the honors of pulling a name from the hat and the winner is Ikkinlala. Congratulations!

  9. In Yugoslavia we acknowledge and celebrate this day. I noticed in Australia this day comes and goes without any reference. I think your post has done beautiful justice to it!

  11. Elaine, thanks for bringing this book to my attention. Margaret's approach and views speak to me, even though I am a good deal younger than her and have not endured 30 years of working in anything yet. All power to Margaret.

  14. I have this book sitting on my nightstand. I would have read it already except 2 reserves arrived at the library the same day this book arrived from Amazon. I'm glad to know you give it a good review.

  15. What a wonderful way to celebrate IWD, giving away a book by a woman following her own path. I've added Margaret Roach to my "to read" list.
