All I can say is, WOW! I am so glad that I made both the scallops and the carrots. My husband and son both loved the scallops, especially the second batch that I made (I got better with the high heat and fast cooking) and the spiced butter-glazed carrots my son liked them so much he copied the recipe and is taking it back to school with him.
Even though this was the most expensive FFwD recipe so far, every morsel was worth it. The caramel-orange sauce only gets better as it sits and the orange flavor really sings when it is heated through again. The next time I make the scallops I will do the caramel-orange sauce a few days ahead because it will give it a chance to thicken.
I am anxious to see what my fellow FFwD members thought about this recipe. You can visit their links over at French Fridays with Dorie.
You can find the Scallops with Caramel-Orange Sauce on pp. 317-319 and the Spiced Butter-Glazed Carrots on p.335 of Dorie Greenspan's Around My French Table.

YUM!! OMG.. it looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteElaine, So glad you were able to get these done! Looks like yours came out great! Those carrots look wonderful! I agree…this was a fabulous dish!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering where you were! So glad you made both these fabulous recipes...what a lovely lunch :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear you found time to make it. Each Friday I think to myself that the next week I will do the recipe EARLY...and then works seems to get nuts :) Somehow we get it all done and thankfully the Dorie recipes have been success after success..which helps when you running behind. I was in the minority who did not do well with the carrots but figured it was something I did. So many folks made them with the scallops and your comment about your son taking the recipe to school with him put me over the fence - I am so trying them again :)
ReplyDeleteYour scallops look so yummy and turned out beautifully! I'm glad you and your husband enjoyed them, they look like they were a wonderful lunch! Hope you have a great and restful weekend!
ReplyDeleteDouble Dorie recipes! Looks like you had a lovely lunch. Good job, Elaine. Hope you have a relaxing weekend. Margaret Roach's book finally made it to the top of my pile, so I'm engrossed in that this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI really need to make the carrots!
ReplyDeleteI am thinking about making this next week. Yours looks great!
ReplyDeleteVery nice looking scallops. Good choice to also make the carrots...and such a pretty color to go with the scallops. My week has been crazy too, seems to never slow down...but all this cooking gives me breaks and is a get-rid-of-stress outlet...and it is fun to see what you all do. It's nice when we really enjoy the recipes.
ReplyDeleteI'm Happy everyone in your family liked these! Yours look lovely.
ReplyDeleteThese really do look good. Scallops are a favorite around here and these are different enough to be interesting. Have a great weekend. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteThis looks like you spent hours in the kitchen. I haven't had scallops in years.... hm. These look absolutely delish. Especially in candlelight! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous that you were able to make this dish twice! Yum!
ReplyDeleteWe really loved these. I like the ideas other members' have had for the sauce. I imagine it will be wonderful with a number of different proteins. I'm glad you had the opportunity to try this. It really isn't a recipe to be missed.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous lunch! I am glad that you got to make it, because the sauce on the scallops is sensational.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed these Elaine! They look scrumptious...I *so* love scallops...will have to give this one a try as this one seems to be a real hit! Happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteWe loved this one too! The spiced carrots are one of my favorites so far and a regular in our house. Looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteSo glad these were a hit for you. And the carrots... we had these again last night and just can't get enough of them.
ReplyDeleteHope this week is a little less hectic for you.
This was one of my favorite recipes so far. Reading about the glazed carrots makes me want to make them now.
ReplyDeleteI think I've been officially convinced to try this recipe again!
ReplyDeleteI actually didn't make them. Poor me because I love scallops. I think these would make a great show off dinner for company so I want to try it out. Hubby doesn't like scallops but I alone decide the menu for company. :)
