Vintage Pop-up Valentine

I love a pretty Valentine. I still remember spending so much time cutting out hearts and decorating my Valentine 'mail' box in grade school and waiting in anticipation and excitement for the Valentines to be dropped in my box by my classmates. I think it was my favorite holiday that we celebrated at school.

So it is no wonder that I still look at Valentine cards and postcards when I go antiquing. I found this exquisite Hallmark Pop-up Valentine last Friday when I stopped by one of my favorite antique stores after work.

The detail on this card is so lovely! I wish they would make cards like this now.

I was surprised to see that it wasn't written on - no little love note or endearing turn of phrase, so I wonder if the person who originally owned this card bought it just because they couldn't resist its beauty and detail - like me.

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, so I've gathered some Favorite Valentine-inspired items that I wanted to share:

  4. I'm with Mike on this one--a true treasure. Wow. So, so lovely. Really from another era of card-making. That is very surprising that it was not written on--really does make you wonder the history of that card--one of the many fun joys and mysteries of antiquing. PS - I love your Proust quote-its one of my favorites! xo
