Magpies

These birds are yellow-billed magpies and they are found only in California. Bird watchers from around the world come to California just to see them. I saw this one feeding contentedly near a squirrel.

What's interesting about magpies is that they stay together as families in small colonies. A mated pair spread their wings and bow to each other and the male feeds the female. (Love that!) They are such beautiful birds and I always enjoy watching them.

  1. They are so beautiful! I love their 'rituals' as well.. it must be fun to watch them. Their beeks are striking against the black/white body.

  2. In the UK we have Magpies(no yellow beaks though!)and many consider them as pests! For me they are colourful characters. The California Magpies are so romantic!
