I love seeing the leaves on the trees finally changing, but with temperatures still hovering in the low 80s the trees are slow to strut their stuff this year.
This time of year always puts me in the mood to do a little bit of baking. Eariler in the week, I baked a pumpkin pie using the recipe on the Libbey's canned pumpkin. The crust, however, is Martha's pate brisee. The pie was so very creamy and had just the right amount of cinnamon and pumpkin spices and the crust was flaky - it didn't last long in my house.

Bartlett pears are in season here right now and since I had a few on hand that were getting pretty ripe I decided to try making a pear galette. I have made galettes before, but not with pears. I saw Martha making it on her show a month or so ago and it looked so delicious. I love the rustic, no-fuss look of the galette and the added sparkle of the sanding sugar on the crust gives it a sweet crunch. The taste and texture of the pears with the apricot jam makes this a perfect fall pie.
I hope you do some baking and that you have a wonderful Fall weekend!
Elaine - that pie looks so good! I love the little pumpkins! I've got that on my list to try (cutting out those little shapes for the rim). It looks delicious too! Our leaves are bright yellow,gold/red.... and are half on the ground/half on the tree. Not many more days left - so enjoy them!
ReplyDeleteWe have had cold temperatures and now 40 mph winds... the leaves will be gone by the end of the week. Beautiful color as the sun beams through the branches.
ReplyDeleteLove your baking!
