Tonight was the last lecture of the California Lectures 2007-2008 season. This evening's guest author lecturer is National Book Award finalist, Tobias Wolff. He wrote Our Story Begins, Old School, and This Boy's Life. He is considered a master of the memoir and short story genre. His memoir, This Boy's Life, was the basis for the movie, In Pharoah's Army (1993) starring Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio. He teaches English at the Stanford University where he was a student on a Stegner Fellowship over 33 years ago. Since I am not a huge fan of memoirs nor the short story genres, I have not had the pleasure of reading any of his works. After tonight's lecture, however, I fully intend to read his latest, Our Story Begins. I very much enjoyed listening to him read his work and hearing his thoughts on theme and his writing process. A friend of mine recently talked about "Our Story Begins" saying that it was a 'must have.' I'll be interested in your review!
